About Ms
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the nervous system, meaning it impacts your nerves. It occurs when your immune system functions improperly.
Normally, your immune system defends your body by fighting off infections, but in MS, it mistakenly attacks your nerves. Since your nerves control various functions throughout your body, MS can cause symptoms in different areas. This is also why MS affects everyone in a unique way.
Although MS is a lifelong condition once diagnosed, treatments and specialists can assist you in managing both the condition and its symptoms. Our goal is to help you live well with MS while funding research to ultimately find a cure.
Every MS story is unique.

Each person living with MS, along with their family and friends, has a unique MS story to tell. We’ve listened to your experiences and asked what matters most to you. We reviewed our strategy from 2015 to 2019 to see where we’ve made progress and where more work is needed. Our goal is a world free from the impact of MS, and we have a bold, ambitious plan to help us achieve this. At the heart of this plan are the MS stories of the 150,000 people living with MS in the UK, along with their carers, families, and friends.

Our vision is a world where MS no longer has any impact. Our ultimate aim is to find treatments for everyone. In the meantime, we’re committed to ensuring that no one faces MS alone. Everything we do is driven by the experiences of those living with MS, because together, we are stronger. There’s currently no cure for MS – but progress is being made at an unprecedented pace. Real breakthroughs are happening. With your support, we can go even further. Discover how, together, we can take steps towards our vision of a world free from the impact of MS.
